What is an Orthotic?

Every enthusiast will tell you that there is no greater joy than owning a pair of vintage Air Jordans by Nike. But not every enthusiast will tell you to get a pair of custom orthotics to ensure that you are comfortable and not experiencing pain when walking. The most common questions we get asked are “What is a custom orthotic?” And “How does it work?”.

So let’s start with what an orthotic is. The best way to describe a pair of orthotics is to think of them as a set of glasses fo your feet. A pair of custom orthotics is is designed specifically for your feet alone, and as much as they look like a pair of insoles they can’t be shared with friends and family. They are a biomechanical medical device designed to specifically correct an imbalance in your feet.

Now that we know what they are, how do they work? In simple terms, the plastic piece of the insole redirects and aligns the foot to its proper position. Certain motions are reduced within the foot as you walk, however this ensures that when you walk you don’t feel pain in your foot.

Are you a good candidate for a custom pair of orthotics? Some symptoms of poor foot

mechanics can include localized foot pain, arch/ heel pain, leg/ knee pain and even some lower back pain.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms and would like to know more, then the “first step” is to book your appointment today and we can measure to see if a pair of custom orthotics can help you.

The best part about them is that since the orthotics are custom made for your specific feet, you are able to wear them with those vintage Air Jordans that are hiding in the closet on the top shelf where the children can’t reach. But that's only if you dare to take them out and wear them.
